Dr Gesche Schmid - Local Government Association

Gesche is leading the implementation of location information policy including INSPIRE, the Public Sector Mapping Agreement and the UK location programme in the local government sector. Gesche has over 20 years experience in GIS and information management. She worked for many years as information manager in Medway Council encouraging the more efficient use of data through better information management and overseeing the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act and compliance with information governance .

Gesche is actively involved in information policy and in particular, issues around information access and reuse rights. She also contributes to the transparency programme. She was one of the main authors of the recently published guide on spending data. As part of her work, Gesche promotes the better management and intelligent use of data to improve effectiveness and efficiency in local service delivery.
