Professor Douglas Macbeth - Professor of Purchasing and Supply Management, University of Southampton

Douglas is the Professor of Purchasing and Supply Management in the School of Management, University of Southampton and a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Foundation Professor. He has had funded research totalling over £1 million from research councils, charities and companies. Douglas was involved in a national Review of University Purchasing considering how procurement was undertaken and contracts structured for over £4 billion of spend. He has advised and consulted to Local Authorities, a collaborative buying consortia acting on behalf of local authorities and the NHS.

He is currently a co-investigator for a study of "Autonomic Supply Chains in Computational Economies" at Southampton using agent based approaches to supply chain decision support.

Douglas is the author or editor of four books and numerous articles and on a number of journal editorial boards including the Associate Editor of European Management Journal from 2006.

Nine years experience in industry in operations management roles before academic career in three other UK Universities, and visiting roles in GSBA Zurich and SUNY at Albany, USA and IESEG, Lille.
