John_Hayes

John Hayes MP - Shadow Minister for Lifelong Learning, Higher Education and Skills

John has been Member of Parliament for South Holland and The Deepings since 1997. He is currently Shadow Minister for Lifelong Learning, Higher Education and Skills, a position he has held since December 2007.

He was a Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party until July 2000, after which he became a Front Bench Spokesman for Education and Employment. In September 2001, he was appointed an Opposition Whip. In July 2002, John was appointed Shadow Minister for Agriculture before in November 2003 becoming Shadow Minister for Local & Devolved Government, with responsibility for Housing and Planning. In May 2005, he became a Shadow Minister for Transport..

John was born in 1958 and married Susan Hopwell in July 1997. He was educated at Colfe's Grammar School and University of Nottingham, where he graduated with a BA Hons Politics and a PGCE in History/English.
