Mark Bee, Leader of Suffolk County Council
Mark Bee is the leader of Suffolk county council, having taken over in May this year following seven years as leader of Waveney district council. During his time at Waveney, he steered the authority through difficult times, delivering big improvements to what had been a low-performing council.
Mark's election to Council Leader came after members of the Conservative group at all levels spoke of the need to see a change in emphasis for the county council. Suffolk's widely criticised 'New Strategic Direction', which involved the outsourcing of almost all services, has since been replaced by controlled innovation under Mr Bee.
Mark has worked in politics for over 20 years, at town, district and county level, including a spell as mayor of his home town Beccles. As leader of the county council, Mark has signalled his determination to work with partners across Suffolk to promote and develop the local economy.
