Baron Rennard of Wavertree (Lib Dem)
Baron Rennard is a frequent contributor in the House of Lords, where he concentrates on Constitutional Affairs, issues surrounding localism, and health matters related to his interests in diabetes and the cessation of smoking.
For nearly 30 years he was employed by the Liberal Democrats as a professional campaigner and agent, and was their Chief Executive between 2003 and 2009. During his time with the Liberal Democrats he was credited with masterminding 12 parliamentary by-election wins for the party. According to Iain Dale, Conservative blogger , Rennard "is probably the most formidable and feared political campaigner of the last 20 years."
Lord Rennard was created a life peer on 21 July 1999, and was introduced in the House of Lords on 27 July 1999, where he sits on the Liberal Democrat benches. He is Treasurer of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Diabetes. In December 2010, he was appointed to chair a commission on the Big Society on behalf of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO).
