Karen Cunningham - FOIA Team Manager, BIS
Karen is currently the FOIA Team Manager within the Information Rights Unit of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. As an experienced FOIA Adviser herself, Karen leads a team of Advisers who provide advice and assistance on dealing with FOIA requests to policy officials throughout the Department.
She also has responsibility for ensuring robust processes are in place to enable the Department to meet FOIA targets which also includes ensuring adequate training on the FOIA and EIR regimes is periodically delivered to officials.
Karen is the Department’s key contact with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and works closely with policy and legal colleagues on complaints received from the ICO.
She also advises across the department on the relationship between FOIA and the Government’s Transparency Agenda.
Before joining the Civil Service 7 years ago, Karen worked in the Press Office of a London teaching hospital while studying for an Information qualification. Prior to that she was a secondary school teacher.
