Stephen Pound MP

Stephen Pound MP (Lab, Ealing North)

Stephen Pound was elected as MP for Ealing North in May l997. Stephen is an active parliamentarian and his main interest areas are housing, Europe, Ireland, transport and local government. He was a member of the Greater London Authority Select Committee and gave his maiden speech on the bill.

Before entering the Commons he was area housing manager of Paddington Churches Housing Association. He has had a varied career including working as a seaman, bus conductor and hospital porter. As a mature student, he went to the London School of Economics and obtained a BSc (Econ) and spent a year as student union president.From 1982 to 1998 he was a Councillor at the London Borough of Ealing. He was also the Mayor of Ealing from 1995-96. He is a postgraduate member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme (Navy) which gives MPs experience of service life, to enable them to speak on defence matters with some knowledge. He also served on the standing committee looking at the Police (Northern Ireland) Bill.
