Alison Spalding - Food Standards Agency
Alison's academic training was as a microbial geneticist. For ten years she worked in the Health and Safety Executive regulating work with genetically modified organisms. This involved the dual roles of technical specialist in risk assessment and in developing policy. A lot of Alison's work was on European negotiation and implementing European law.
In 2001, Alison moved to the Food Standards Agency. Initially most of her work was on cross cutting food safety projects, but she also spent 4 years leading a team developing food compositional standards. In parallel, since 2002 she has led a small team developing the Agency's position on sustainability and working to embed it into our everyday work, both how we run our business and policy making.
