Elizabeth Watson LL.B, NP - Head of Committee Office of the Scottish Parliament

Head of Committee Office of the Scottish Parliament. A graduate of Edinburgh University in law; previously a solicitor in private practice specialising in civil court business. In 1982 joined the staff of the Law Society of Scotland as a Deputy Secretary and in 1988 moved to the Scottish Legal Aid Board initially as Secretary to the Board and latterly as Director of Legal Services and Policy. In February 1999 took up post as Head of Committee Office in the Scottish Parliament and was part of a small team which set up the administrative arrangements for the Parliament in preparation for the first elections in May 1999, including drafting the Standing Orders. Currently heads an office of 50 staff providing support and advice to the conveners and members of 11 of the Parliament's 14 committees. Also, personally acts as Clerk to the Conveners Group, a body comprising all committee conveners (chairs) and chaired by a Deputy Presiding Officer.
