John Pugh MP

John Pugh MP (Lib Dem, Southport) - Treasury spokesman

John has been an MP since 2001. He graduated in philosophy from Durham University before becoming a teacher. He taught in secondary modern, comprehensive and independent schools and prior to his election as MP was head of philosophy and religious studies at Merchant Taylors' School in Crosby.

He represented Birkdale ward as a Sefton councillor from 1987 to 2001 and was elected leader of the Sefton Liberal Democrat group in 1992. Since election as an MP, John served on the Transport, Local Government and Regions Select Committee in the 2001-5 Parliament. He was added to the Liberal Democrat Health team under Steve Webb in 2006 after the election of Sir Menzies Campbell as party leader. He currently serves as Treasury Spokesman alongside Colin Breed in Nick Clegg's Shadow Cabinet.
